Highland Springs Resort Wedding – Megan + Mike Married!!

OH MY HEAVENS!!

That is what my first Instagram post of Megan and Mike’s wedding photos this week looked like, because honestly, look at their location! When Megan first reached out to me and told me she and Mike would be exchanging their vows at Highland Springs Resort, it only took minutes browsing images on the web to go from never having heard of this glorious place to it being a dream venue to shoot at. They chose a venue filled with lavender fields, rows of olive trees, and tall evergreens, all of which make my heart skip a beat. Seeing the utter beauty of their wedding location online was only the start though. Once Megan and I got on the phone it was so evident she was also a DREAM BRIDE to work with. Not only do we have such a similar appreciation for the artistic side of wedding planning (oh those details!), but what’s even more wonderful about Megan is her heart. She is kind, loving, simple, selfless… Mike you really got a good one!! I loved sitting down with them for the first time and hearing their heart about wedding planning. What they liked about their venue is that it included so much already and they didn’t have to worry too much about all of the details of planning. They just really didn’t want getting married to be a source of stress in their relationship and preferred to continue focusing on each other and growing as a couple. That is so beautiful to see in today’s world and it’s something I admire about them so much.

Megan and Mike met on match.com, and what is so cute about their story is they found out later that they only lived two miles away from each other and nearly had the same names! Megan’s last name was Flanders and Mike’s is Landers, so by the time they had dated long enough to know each other was “the one” Megan literally just had to drop the F from her last name! Thus, their wedding hashtag was born: #droppinthef … how fun is that?!

Megan and Mike decided to do a first look for two reasons. One was that they wanted to hang out for a bit during their cocktail hour, but the main reason, Megan said, was “to spend as much time with [her] boo as possible” on their wedding day. That’s a pretty good reason for a first look if you ask me! Sure, you may get a few more photos with your love and have them all out of the way before the ceremony, but in my opinion, making wedding decisions around the whole experience rather than just getting nice photos is always a good idea!

After Megan and Mike finished getting all ready for each other we all went out to the olive garden for their first look. This is one of my favorite spots on the whole property! If I could photograph here everyday I wouldn’t be mad!

Then we did all their wedding party photos before the ceremony so everyone got to hang out during cocktail hour! It was a lot to accomplish all at once but they were so happy they did, and they were such good spirits about it too!

Okay, seriously how cute are Megan and Mike with their little flower girls and ring bearers!?

After photos everyone got a little bit of time to hang out and relax before the ceremony started. Then guests began to arrive and the wedding party lined up for the processional to begin! Megan and Mike had a dear friend officiate the wedding and my favorite part of it was hearing him quote so many loved ones telling stories about the bride and groom. It was so personal and warm. He did a fantastic job and there were smiles, nods in agreement, and happy tears all around!

They’re married!!!

Right after the ceremony, they just enjoyed some time celebrating with everyone instead of rushing away for photos. I loved seeing them enjoy themselves and not having to pull them away from loved ones at such a high moment of emotions. Instead, we just quietly followed them around and captured the fun without interrupting! Then we snuck them out towards the end of cocktail hour for some sunset shots Megan was excited to get in the lavender field, and it did not disappoint!

We all had so much fun capturing the rest of their evening under the reception tent filled with dinner, dancing, and fun. It was so clear that everyone there had a great time, so much so that they continued on the night at the hotel bar for an after party!

I can’t say enough great things about these two. Megan and Mike, I just adore you and I’m so thankful that I got to be there to document this day for you. A huge thanks to Stephanie and Ron Aparicio for connecting us, and of course, to all the vendors who made this day possible!
