Yosemite Engagement Session – Frances + Ilias
If you’ve been following along my Instagram Stories this week, you know I’ve been wandering around Yosemite National Park for this engagement shoot! This was my first time ever visiting Yosemite, and wow. Just. Wow. It’s one thing to look at a gorgeous view. It’s another to be completely surrounded with jaw-dropping beauty of the earth that’s nothing quite like anything you’ve ever seen before.
Frances took a family trip here as a young child, and though most of it is a blur now, she did remember one thing that brought her back with Ilias to document their love story…
“It was magical.”
Frances and Ilias met through mutual friends on a night they weren’t supposed to cross paths. Frances’s close friend Angela invited her out, and she turned her down several times. She was overwhelmed with midterms and had a broken phone at the time, yet somehow Angela found a way to get ahold of her and convinced her to come out. That’s where she met Ilias. They had an instant connection and were inseparable ever since. Their love has now spanned six years, stood the test of time, different upbringings, cultures, religion, and even long distance; yet if anything, these things have only brought them closer and given them a greater appreciation for each other.
Frances and Ilias’s desire to truly love and accept everyone illuminates through them, showing that their outer beauty is simply an overflow from inside them. This makes even sweeter for me to be able to photograph such lovely souls!
Frances and Ilias chose three outfits for their shoot, and we hit three main views. We decided to meet up at the Majestic Yosemite Hotel and hop in one car to adventure the mountains, and we ended up spending an entire four hours together for their shoot! Mind you, it took us about an hour and a half to reach the top viewpoint (oh, you have to keep scrolling to see!). We started the shoot in a meadow with a view of the famous glacier split rock and Yosemite Falls peeking through the trees. Then we headed to Taft Point with a quick stop at Tunnel View to capture the famous Half Dome behind them!
The last stop was really the grand finale to the most incredible day of breathtaking locations. Taft Point required a 30 minute hike out to a cliff overlooking the entire park. It was one of the most incredible sights I have ever seen, and I’m already itching to go back!
This trip was one for the books! Every time I get to travel to do what I love, I can’t help but feel gratitude for the sweet couples who entrust me to capture something they put so much energy and time into planning. Eleven years in, and I’m still in disbelief that this is what I call “work.” It’s just too incredible.
Frances and Ilias are getting married next February at Scripps Seaside Forum in La Jolla, and I have Molly of Tres Chic Affairs to thank for connecting us! I can already tell by the way they share about their families that it’s going to be an amazing crowd, and I can’t wait to meet all of their loved ones and document them dancing the night away!
