A Ballerina’s Winter Wedding Inspiration

I’m so excited I can finally share this beautiful styled shoot! This one was planned with the intention for publication, and we were overjoyed to have it go live on 100 Layer Cake just last week! Now you can see all the goodness here, and possibly be bombarded with images for a while on my Instagram too. It’s just too pretty, thanks to an amazing team of creatives who made it possible.

When Callaway Winery first approached me for this wedding inspiration shoot, I immediately knew who I would ask to style and coordinate it all. I have long been admiring Molly with Tres Chic Affairs and was ecstatic when she agreed to pull together a vision and team for this. I sent over a model couple I had in mind—a ballerina beauty and her husband of fourteen years—two people who are now dear friends of ours! I knew that Holly’s grace and poise would be a dream to photograph, and her and Jonny’s love, commitment, and natural chemistry would shine through in the images.

Molly saw a picture of Holly dancing ballet and it inspired the design for everything. I was captivated by the way she took the elegance of the performing arts and mirrored it in the styling. It was a beautiful personal touch.

The overall feel for this shoot was in many ways inspired by our Bride model. When choosing models I discovered that she was a real life ballerina, and I was instantly transported to visions of all things soft, ethereal, and romantic. I wanted to keep everything light and airy and spring like and played off of some of my favorite ballets. Cinderella being one of them, for a color palette of French blue and creams that gave a dainty yet regal feel to the overall look.” – Molly, Tres Chic Affairs

“The whimsical ceremony backdrop which played off the floral arches that many dancers perform with”

Of course her gown had to be mostly tulle, and hair in a softer and more modern bun, what else for a ballerina? Even down to the floral wreath on the cake and the whimsical ceremony backdrop which played off the floral arches that many dancers perform with.”

“We even brought in a touch of fluffy goodness to mimic the costumes with blush cotton candy. One of my favorite details was the hanging installation of white blooms over the tablescape that made the table feel so romantic and inviting”

My favorite images from this shoot were, ironically enough, the ones I was the most nervous about. One of our big goals was to show real couples the beauty in the winter vines. I’ve personally always been enamored with the way the vineyards change colors in the cold months. I had this vision in my head to capture those colors; however, I arrived on the day of the shoot and the vineyards had quickly turned from colorful leaves when I scouted to bare vines in a couple of short weeks. Still, the vastness of the vineyards stretching across the hills and the perfectly lined rows of deep browns had a dark beauty that I knew would perfectly contrast the soft elegance Molly brought together. After we frolicked around the winery to capture all of the details, we snuck out to the vineyards for the very last bit of light. The soft glow of sun rays kissed the vines as they blurred into the background. It was inspiring to see how beauty can be brought out in the most unexpected ways.

I really wanted to show that you can take elements of who you are as a Bride, Groom, or couple and incorporate them into your overall style in a thoughtful way without being overly themed or ordinary.

An amazing team of super talented women came together to make this shoot happen and I am so proud of how lovely it turned out.” – Molly, Tres Chic Affairs
