2015 Recap in iPhone Photos
Wow, another year on the books. The older I get, the more quickly time seems to fly. It feels like it was just a couple months ago when everyone was posting those slideshows of their best-of-photos on Instagram for 2014. It’s safe to say that 2015 was my best year yet. I have so many wonderful memories from the last 365 days. I photographed 28 weddings, rebranded and grew my business, and built such great relationships along the way. But there was so much good going on in my personal life as well. Here are some highlights of the year, both in work and in life… starting with my favorite memory of them all!
And since I’m always posting my professional images, I thought it be a little fun to share some not-so-perfect behind the scenes, #iPhone only. Enjoy!
1. Justin and I got married!
On January 10, 2015, my best friend took me as his wife and it completely changed my life for the better! “They say your wedding day is the day you love each other the least, and it’s so true” …a quote from my MOH/sister from our wedding film that I can’t wait to share on the blog for our one year anniversary!
Below is a photo of us with my Uncle Steve and Aunt Dana… Uncle Greg is photobombing in the background!
If you look closely, you can see my wedding photographer Rachel snapping away while I pose in front of the window!
Just a couple of my pretty bridesmaids, Chelsea, Marina and Yuliza! Coincidentally, I just shot two of their weddings this year (Chelsea and Yuliza), and Marina is about to get married in NYC this coming March!
2. We honeymooned in Hawaii.
Justin and I went to Maui for our honeymoon. Best. Trip. Ever.
Our favorite part of the trip? Kayaking out about 300 yards from the shore and snorkeling with fish and turtles in crystal clear water! After we swam, we hopped back in the kayaks and went out so far that the water turned shade of blue so deep it looked black, and in front of us were humpback whales swimming together. It was amazing.
3. My brother got married in Maryland, and I was a bridesmaid!
All three of us Petersen-sisters were bridesmaids in my brother’s wedding for his bride Chardonnay, our new sister! They got married in the prettiest mansion in Maryland. I got to be a VIP guest, as opposed to “photographer.” The most amazing moment was walking out of the ceremony room and being handed champagne! That never happens to me at work!!
After all of the wedding excitement, Justin and I extended our trip and museum hopped in Washington DC… so fun! I discovered more than ever his deep appreciation for history during our visit to the Halocaust Museum. While my family went through and read the most important pieces of information, which took them about an hour, Justin insisted we read every single word in the exhibit, and we were there about three hours! I had to run out and put more change in the meter for our car, so we could finish the experience!
4. I was a bridesmaid and a wedding photographer.
I got to be a bridesmaid for a second time this year! Some of our closest friends got married, and Justin and I both stood up next to them as they exchanged vows. Yuliza was having the hardest time choosing a wedding photographer, so I was crazy enough to offer to do both! You may think I’m out-of-my-mind, but the best go-getters know how to delegate. I hired on three people to assist me, and I couldn’t have done it without their help and the support of my husband! It ended up working out perfectly, and the day flowed so peacefully! You can read all about the whole experience here.
5. Rising Tide Society’s #TuesdaysTogether came to Temecula and touched my life.
Rising Tide Society launched in June of 2015, and it was then that I submitted an application to bring #TuesdaysTogether to the Temecula Valley of Southern California. I was so excited and nervous when I heard it was approved! I didn’t know if anyone would even come. Fast forward six months, and nothing has touched my life more in my career than this amazing group of people. I’ve built new friendships and strengthened ones I already had.
I’m so thankful for this community of true friends!
6. The Josephs went back to the Caribbean.
If you didn’t know, Justin’s family is from the Caribbean, and he was raised there most of his young childhood. We do our best to go visit as much as possible, but I’ve only been twice so far! We really enjoyed our visit this last summer catching up with family and friends and adventuring the beautiful island together!
Post-swim selfie with the sister!
7. Justin and I Discovered Our Love For Cat Videos.
I know we’re not alone. You’re either not going to get this, or instantly feel a stronger connection to us because of our mutual love for strange but hilarious cat videos. We hope it’s the latter.
8. I launched #JennaJosephMentoringSessions.
I’ve always loved teaching others, but I decided to officially launch my mentoring sessions for aspiring photographers this year, and it has been such a blessing! Our last session ended with Laura unexpectedly taking home a puppy from Old Town Temecula!
9. I won a trip to Virginia to shoot a wedding with the sweet Katelyn James.
While sitting in her WPPI course this year, I won a trip to shoot a wedding with Katelyn James, one of my favorite wedding photographers who has become a sweet friend. I loved visiting her and Michael for the weekend in Virginia and wish Justin could have come with me! You have to read about my whole trip here!
10. Justin and I road tripped to Arizona with our friends to photograph their engagement session!
Marina (in my bridesmaid wedding selfie at the top of this post) and Matt got engaged this year! We road tripped to Sedona, Arizona for their engagement session, and I discovered a newfound love for the dessert! I hate the heat, but visiting in winter and seeing the jaw dropping views everywhere we went really changed my mind. We stayed in the nicest vacation home with the most stunning views of the red rocks. I can’t wait to go back and visit!
11. We had our first married Christmas.
It’s crazy to think the year is almost over, and we have been married 11 1/12 months already! We celebrated our first Christmas together, and the best part was doing absolutely nothing… All. Day. Long. We ended the night with a 10:00 PM showing of Star Wars and made good use of my new selfie stick from my little sis. Thanks, Janie!
It’s been an amazing year, and I can’t wait to see what 2016 has in store for us! Thank you for being a part of our journey!
