How To Shoot in Manual – New Blog Series!

Hello friends! I am so excited to announce a new blog series – How To Shoot in Manual. I’m passionate about teaching other photography lovers how to shoot on DSLR cameras.

DSLR stands for “Digital Single-Lens Reflex” and is more easily identified as that fancy camera which allows you to change out lenses and shoot in manual mode. I’ve noticed in the last few years that a lot of people own these, but there is this huge lie today among mainstream consumerism that if you buy a semi-pro camera, you’re going to get better photos. The truth is, if you’re shooting in auto, you’re missing out!

Here is evidence:

These two images above are SOOC (straight out of camera!), meaning I didn’t edit them at all. The left was shot in auto mode. The right was 100% manual. Have I convinced you yet? See how much a DSLR can do when you know how to adjust your settings?!

In this 6 week blog blog series, we’ll talk all about how to shoot in manual mode. We’re going to chat about the exposure triangle, ISO, aperture and shutter speed. We’ll get to know how each one affects light, and how they also each affect other aspects of the image, so getting the perfect balance is key!

Next week, we’ll do an overview on the three main settings that affect exposure, and I’ll share the order I like to set them in and why! Be sure to check back each Thursday for a new tip and some fun challenges.

Check out the rest of the series via the links below:

Week 2: The Exposure Triangle
Week 3: Understanding ISO
Week 4: Dreamy Aperture
Week 5: Shutter Speed
Week 6: Mini Guide and Beginner Gear Tips!

If you’d like some one-on-one coaching to better understand your DSLR, you can also set up a one-hour, in-person coaching session with me! I have a passion for teaching and would love to meet you! Get in touch at contact@jennaphoto.com.
