Kate + Drew Engagement at the Lake
Oh, this session!! I’m so excited to post this one, and I have been so eager to since the moment I drove away from the Lake with Kate and Drew! Drew and I went to high school together, and his cousin was one of my very best friends. I would spend weekends with Megan during our teenage years. We would do fun things like go to the waterpark, and sometimes her younger cousins would come along. I’ve known drew since he was in middle school, now that I think of it! When Megan got married in Minnesota three years ago (where does time go?!), I was lucky enough to be her wedding photographer! Of course, Drew was there, teasing me for crying during the ceremony while shooting. I couldn’t help myself!
When Drew sent me that first email that he got engaged and was flying out with Kate to California for vacation, I was so excited to hear that he and his beautiful fiancé wanted me to photograph their session! The two of them mentioned that they wanted the outdoorsy vibe, so I sent them a list of location options. They both immediately loved the lake area I recommended, as it resonated with a lot of their memories while dating. I was so happy to hear that they chose this spot, because it is absolutely stunning! Not to mention that there is so much variety here for photographs!
Look at those stunning blue eyes!
Kate and Drew first met at the Brewers Stadium in Milwaukee, WI where they both work. Drew says, “Kate’s job is way cooler than mine though.” He clearly has so much love and respect for her, and it shined the entire time we were taking photos! Apparently the Brewers Stadium is a matchmaking machine. Kate and Drew mentioned that there has already been at least four couples that have wed from meeting there at work. Everyone there is a pretty tight-nit group, and it seems they are one giant circle of friends. Their job sounds pretty amazing to me!
Drew’s original plan was to propose to Kate on a skydiving date… except Kate changed that up really quickly when she refused to jump out of a plane thousands of feet off the ground. Kate, I admire your will! I don’t think anyone could ever convince me to go skydiving. I’m not as worried about going splat on the ground as I am about dying of a heart attack in the air! Justin’s parents are currently trying to plan a family skydiving day, and they are constantly teasing me about my refusing to tag along.
So Drew worked out another plan. On their two-year anniversary, Drew took Kate back to the place they had their second date. “Because, it was my favorite,” Kate said.
How beautiful is that ring! He did well!
Right at sunset, we headed up to a beautiful field above the lake to catch the golden rays of light. I could shoot in open fields all the days of my life and never get sick of it! The simplicity and romance forever has my heart!
And up to the top of the hill for one last photo before we left! We had to get the whole lake after they flew all the way to California for their engagement session!
Kate and Drew, I hope your Wisconsin wedding is nothing short of amazing! I’m so honored that you got in touch and had me capture this amazing season in your lives. I wish you two the best and hope to stay in touch!
