Ethereal Fog Proposal and Amazing Love Story
Amidst the pretty fog and the magical sunrise light is a love story and a real-life proposal. Kristin is a dear friend of mine who loves to style and has a gift of calligraphy. We had conversations about doing a project together, so when Matt approached me with the idea to surprise Kristin with a lovely proposal during a “styled couple’s shoot,” everything naturally fell together. I simply asked her if we could put a date on the calendar and begin planning something that was meaningful to her and Matt. He pretended it was the first time hearing of the idea and agreed to be a part of it, of course leaving the planning details up to us.
“When our dear friend and photographer, Jenna, approached me to ask to do a couples photoshoot, I was over the moon! I thought I had to trick my then-boyfriend into participating. But when I asked him, he shrugged his shoulders and said, “sounds fun”.We wanted the photos to reflect our relationship: a playful, confident, and simple love.We decided the photoshoot would be at sunrise, a significant time of day for Matt and I. It was during sunrise that we shared our first kiss, and it was during sunrise we whispered our love to each other for the first time.”
It was in this moment that the fog really came and settled on a hill where Kristin and Matt looked out at one another from a distance. Matt told me just days before of how perfect it would be to kneel down and ask his love to be his forever, on a hill with the fog. I gasped at how perfect it was, and I gave him the code word. Then I stepped back and remained quiet from a distance while I capture the most beautiful proposals.
“As the fog began to roll through the hills, Matt and I shared a quiet moment together. He held my hands as he began to tell me that I was more precious to him than rubies.‘I am more with you than I could ever be apartThis is to show you, and to know you,For the rest of my life.Will you go with me, and grow with me;
Will you be my wife?’The fog waited in anticipation matching my held breath. My response: ‘What hand does the ring go on?!’ as he sat waiting on one knee. He laughed as he held my hands in his. ‘You forgot to say yes!’ Our laughter rang in the air as I cried, ‘Yes! Yes and yes and yes! I will be your wife. I will be yours for all of our lives.'”
“We say that our love is “from end to end.” We held that idea close to our hearts when travel took us to opposite ends of the world. With each season of separation, “from end to end” meant a connection and commitment that couldn’t be hindered by distance, or lessened with time. Our desire is an unconditional love.And so, from one end of earth to the other, our love grew.”
“Matt and I both love poetry, and with the struggles and joys of saying our hellos and goodbyes at airport terminals, we naturally began to recite lines to each other from John Donne’s “A Valediction: Forbidding Mourning”.Our two souls therefore, which are one,Though I must go, endure not yetA breach, but an expansion,Like gold to airy thinness beat.We liked to imagine our love as an invisible golden thread binding us, connecting us from end to end. Gold expands and does not break; the further we were from each other, the wider the expansion. Despite our distance, the golden thread weaves our hearts into one.”
“After reflecting on our relationship and choosing pieces that symbolized our union, I was overwhelmed when the morning culminated in Matt bending onto one knee! He and Jenna had planned it together all along.”
